Personally, my own first memory with stickers involves one of those children’s storybooks with blank silhouettes and a sheet of corresponding characters you were supposed to stick onto the pages, but stickers should not be just limited to the children’s section of the stationery store, or to simply be used in aesthetically-pleasing journals that seem to be all over TikTok and Instagram (even if they are absolutely amazing to look at).

They’re actually a versatile marketing tool that you could utilize in all sorts of ways to give your brand a voice that you never expected to have!

A Little Something Extra

Have you ever bought something, and they give you a little freebie sticker as part of the purchase? Maybe even two? And even if you have that annoying sticker anxiety where you don’t know where to stick them, and it ends up in a little drawer with all your other stickers, it’s still a pretty nice surprise to get them in the box when normally all you expect is boring paperwork and literature. Apple has been doing this for years, packaging a single sticker of their iconic logo in with most of their products, likely in the hopes that their legions of fans will want to stick it on any number of things. We’re sure you’ve seen Apple stickers on the backs of cars, on laptops (even if they’re not a Macbook), or on any number of items. Maybe someone you know has a drawer full of them, and maybe that someone is you.

They’ve since updated their approach for these stickers in their latest line of Macs, featuring stickers that match the color of the machines in the box. This means instead of the standard white stickers most people are used to, their customers would get them in yellow, blue, green, and so on. This small touch has been largely well-received, and many influencers and creators appeared to be delighted when filming their unboxing videos.

This practice has since trickled down to smaller businesses, with sellers online seen emulating this when packaging orders from their customers, most commonly with artists and other craftsmen who are able to design their own special stickers. With purchases from Etsy shops and Shopee artists, you may find yourself surprised with little packs of stickers featuring their art for customers as a way of saying ‘thank you’. This builds goodwill and serves as a sort of constant marketing for their audience, especially if these stickers have been stuck on display in a promiment location.

But of course, this isn’t (and shouldn’t be) limited to online sellers. It’s literally so easy to have a cstom sticker of your own design, die cut to your exact specifications.

Security Seal

Did you know that seals have been used for hundreds and hundreds of years for security reasons? Sure, this started out most prevalent in letters being sent by royalty and aristocrats, whether it be official correspondence for diplomatic reasons, or for their own personal mail, and maybe they were using fancy wax seals instead of stickers, but the idea is just about the same: to make sure whatever was sealed inside hadn’t been tampered with.

These days, stickers make for a much more affordable and convenient tamper-prevention method, and come in a wide variety of finishes and materials for all sorts of purposes. They can be stuck over specific screws on electronics to show if something has been opened up by another (unauthorized) party, or even in the food industry to let consumers know if the food they’re getting is safe to consume and hasn’t been accessed by nefarious individuals. This practice offers protection to many people on all sorts of levels, and we can all rest easy knowing no one has gotten their dirty little hands into something they were not supposed to. So long as the sticker appears intact and undamaged, it’s likely whatever is inside is a-okay for our own consumption, and peace of mind is priceless in a world that’s been through a whole pandemic.

Even you can start off small and customize your own envelope sticker seal, creating a more whimsical experience for anyone you’re sending your mail to. From personal correspondence to super confidential business stuff, stickers may just be what you need to make boring old snail mail that much more fun. We find the Mirror Kote option ideal for this purpose, and if you want to keep safe, you can’t go wrong with a standard round template.

Guerilla Marketing

While we don’t condone pasting stickers on every surface possible (as this is highly irresponsible and not to mention illegal), stickers themselves can be used in all sorts of guerilla marketing tactics that will cause quite a stir. With the right design, any sticker can become a talking point that gets conversations started on your business and/or brand, which is of course the goal of any branding exercise.

Placed at strategic locations that are relevant to their needs (with the proper approval of course), any business can begin a viral guerilla sticker campaign that might stay in the minds of the public for years to come. Details can be added onto bathroom signs for different holidays, augment elements that are already there, or add interesting graphics onto doors to send a compelling message through the magic of graphic design.

Human brains are so attuned to everyday patterns that the slightest changes can catch their attention in an instant. And when you add (or subtract) from certain elements that they’ve come to expect, anything can become thought-provoking or striking. We recommend using stickers of the non-permanent variety for this purpose, like the Removable Transparent OPP variant, which can be easily taken off at the end of the campaign without any sticky residue.

And now that you have a basic idea of how stickers can help your brand grow.

As we get ready to say goodbye to 2021 (good riddance if you ask me), 2022 looms on the horizon. And with the arrival of a new year comes the opportunity to once again reinvent who we are. “New Year, New Me” posts have become oh-so-common over the years, and it seems to be a trend that brands and businesses have come to adopt as well. Something about the Earth completing one more lap around the sun seems like the perfect time to start something new.

And if you’re one of those people thinking about completely overhauling your brand vibes, or even just making small tweaks, these 5 tips are the perfect jumping off point to get you to where you want to be.

Quiet Designs Speak Volumes

While you may be tempted to slap on all the information you feel is important onto the packaging in an effort to try and convince your customer you’re worth their money, there’s a chance your 50 selling points are hurting you rather than helping.

Packaging that cleverly utilizes negative space may be the way to go if you’re confident in your product as it does away with any visual clutter that most brands opt for, and stands out beautifully on a shelf with competing products.

And more often than not, a simple packaging design may even lend to a more high-end feel, emulating luxury brands that know the value of good negative space.

Designing for the Internet

For better or worse, it’s safe to say that the internet has become irrevocably intertwined with our lives, especially in a post-Covid world where the majority of the planet’s population has become accustomed to the ease of online shopping. This means that it’s more important than ever to make sure your packaging design looks as nice onscreen as it does in-store.

No one in their right mind can deny the fact that ecommerce is now an aspect every business should start considering (if not actively building it already). On top of that, you’ll also be able to create quality content for your social media accounts, be it Instagram, TikTok, or even YouTube. Even if the people seeing your posts aren’t exactly the ones who will be buying the product, the engagement you get is just as important, and will drive more potential buyers your way.

This means creating packaging that is appealing even when your potential customers are not able to hold it in their hands. One great way of achieving this is by utilizing a clever combination of aesthetically-pleasing colours and bold, simple font to make up for the lack of physical contact. As most humans are largely visual creatures, taking advantage of this means you could quickly see an increase in sales.

Rework Your Copywriting

While it may be hard for some to kick the habit of “marketing speak” (and once again slap a whole essay of selling points onto the packaging), recent industry changes have shown that getting straight to the point is something we might see a lot more of in the future.

An increasing number of products have opted for a no-nonsense approach when it comes to their marketing copy, simply stating what a product does on the packaging with no overtly fancy language or pretentiousness. And if you haven’t been living under a rock for the past couple of years, you would also know that a more casual tone is now the way to go, as shoppers everywhere begin seeking a more personal, friendly connection with the world around them.

Time to Make Connections

We understand that sometimes you really want to tell everyone about the myriad things your products can do, and you’re excited to share just how amazing they are. Well, we live in the 21st century and you have the option to tell everyone about your awesome product without sacrificing the aesthetics of your packaging. The answer: QR codes.

In the event your customers want to find out more about your product, all it takes is for them to pull out their phone and give your QR code a quick scan to be brought to a page specifically designed to host all your information, beautifully laid out. Right here they can peruse as they please, finding out as much or as little as they want.

On the other side of the tech spectrum, you also have the option of exploring the AR space. Some businesses have experimented with packaging and labels that can be scanned using custom apps that can bring the packaging to life, either animating the illustrations on your label, or perhaps opening a little bubble that provides information. If you have the resources, this could be a fun way to get people talking.

Colour Blocking Organically

Colour blocking is one design trend that we have seen a lot of and don’t think is going away anytime soon. However! There may be a little bit of an evolution going on here. Instead of colour blocking with the usual geometric shapes and angular lines, it would seem that organic lines are the next big thing.

Try going for jagged lines on the edges of your shapes to get a look reminiscent of a rocky mountain range, or maybe blobby cow patterns in a variety of pastel colours.

We recommend sitting down and thinking about what kind of brand you are and the image you’re hoping to project before experimenting with the colours you’re going to use. Just make sure they complement each other and you should end up with something that’s pleasing to the eye.

The type of paper used for difference purposes is expressed in weight. In the countries following the European system, it is grammes per square metre (gsm or g/m2 or simply g) and in the US system it is Pound (lb).

The paper used for writing/printing (letterheads and such stationery) is generally between 60 to 120 gsm (20 to 70 lb) and is called the paper or text stock. Anything heavier than this is considered the card stock, i.e. the paper used for business cards, postcards, greeting cards, etc.

Coated papers are available in two finishes – glossy (shiny and smooth) and matt (flat and lusterless). Coated glossy papers reflect the light evenly so they are suitable for almost all types of printing jobs. Glossy papers have a good ink holdout, which is important for creating sharp, bright images.

Printing

Our system supports RGB (red, green, blue) for producing digital prints. We have accurately mapped color pallet to match RGB to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key) to ensure proper 4-color printing.
